Roland Print and Cut Technology Helps Avit Digital Pvt. Ltd. Continue its Legacy

Roland devices are ideal for those starting new ventures, but they are also a popular choice among those with a legacy stretching back over decades. We spoke with Mr Sunil Dewani, owner of one such company – Avit Digital Pvt. Ltd. – and found out how his Roland VS-640 has become a lynchpin of his business.

The company was started by Mr. Dewani’s father as Filmistan Photo Studio, when the famous Filmistan Cinema was established nearby. For 50 years, Filmistan Photo Studio became very well known, and later the Five Star Photo Lab was founded. As the business grew, they formed a relationship with Sony and opened an exclusive showroom.

As they were in the photo business, this was a win-win for Sony’s camera business, which Five Star Photo Lab entered in 1997 – an important time for digital cameras. The Sony cameras were sold at 40,000 rupees and Five Star Photo Lab became India’s largest seller of those models and now, the company owns three showrooms across Delhi.

They purchased their first Roland device 10 years ago – the popular VersaCAMM VS-640 64" Eco-Solvent Inkjet Printer/Cutter

“We looked at many options before choosing Roland,” says Mr. Dewani, “we had considered smaller machines, but we wanted something bigger. We had several demos with APSOM who satisfied us at every level and so we purchased the VS-640.”

“Undoubtedly, the Roland machine is perfect, quality-wise and it’s very easy to use.” Mr. Dewani explains. “We selected it because of its durability and reliability – it never fails, and it always delivers on time. We like the advanced features also and we are considering buying upgraded one too. The quality, support and service of APSOM has been excellent and that's another reason we decided to buy the machine.”

Avit Digital Pvt. Ltd. use their Roland printer/cutter to make stickers, photo prints and canvas prints and unlike other players in the market, they don’t opt for cheaper third-party inks, letting them charge a premium price for a premium product.

“We don’t use third party inks, because when you invest in good machine, you should use best ink. You should always company recommended inks, then you will never have issues with machine as well.”

The quality of the output, and the longevity of the machine wasn’t the only factor in choosing Roland’s inks, according to Mr. Dewani: “The eco-friendly Roland inks are great and they’re not hazardous to health. That’s very important to us because our staff sit and use the machine day and night and we won’t compromise on inks which we are exposed to throughout.”

As their VS-640 helps Avit Digital Pvt. Ltd. grow as a business, they are looking to expand into 3D printing and other cutting-edge technology. You can find out more about them by visiting their website, or discover Roland DG’s eco-solvent print and cut technology here.
